Shellie Matt Psychotherapy, LLC

My approach to therapy involves creating a sacred space (temenos), where your concerns and difficulties are met with compassion and free from judgment. I provide a safe place to explore both the conscious and unconscious processes. I offer Jungian oriented psychotherapy, which is primarily concerned with the discovery and unfolding of a person’s unique expression and purpose in life, whatever that may be. The focus is on examining conscious thought patterns and/or maladaptive behaviors that arise from unconscious motivations and past wounding. These may manifest in the form of internal critical dialogue or a feeling of being stuck in transition from one phase of life to another, as well as symptoms of depression, anxiety, loneliness, trauma responses, childhood difficulties, anger, work/life balance, stress, relationship problems, physical pain or illness, and addictions.

I have extensive professional knowledge and training and over 25 years clinical experience to assist you as you consider your possibilities and desires for life change. My guidance on your journey may include: art, dream work, journaling, yoga and mindfulness based approaches to accessing and healing the self. Tremendous value is placed on spontaneity and creativity while at the same time there is a faithful listening to hear what is not being said behind or underneath your feelings, thoughts, and behaviors.

In addition to working with young, middle aged and older adults in transition I have a passion for, and considerable experience in, working with children of all ages. As a former school psychologist and a psychotherapist, I have vast experience in working with children, adolescents and parents on a number of issues: academic, social/peer issues, depression, anxiety, addiction, self-esteem, divorce, grief, ADHD and trauma. Along with talk therapy I use art, sand tray, movement, and play based therapies as the ground for our interaction. My view for our journey together is not focused on fitting you into a label or treatment plan.
